Board of Directors

Tom Klaameyer
President/Region VI Director
AEA Office

I first came to Alaska in 1989, courtesy of the United States Air Force.  After completing my enlistment, I chose to stay in Alaska and took advantage of my GI Bill to earn my teaching degree at UAA.  I taught Social Studies in the district (at Bartlett and Eagle River High Schools) for over twenty years, and am now privileged to serve you as the AEA President.

Juli Campbell
Bartlett High School

I have been in the district since 2006 as a science and CTE teacher at both Bartlett High School and Eagle River High School.  I am new to the AEA board as of October, fulfilling the term of the previous treasurer.  Prior to being a teacher, I worked as a bookkeeper for both an internet provider and a construction company while obtaining my bachelor and master degrees.  Teaching has been my greatest, most rewarding career, and I look forward to many more years serving the students of Anchorage as both a teacher and an AEA member.

I've taught English at West High since 2000, and I’ve been a building rep since 2013. I’ve served on the AEA Board since 2015, and I’m co-chair of AEA’s PACE (political action) committee. I’m also a member of the NEA-AK Board and the state PACE. I’ve represented AEA at the NEA-AK Delegate Assembly (state governance body) for the last four years, and at NEA’s Representative Assembly (national governance) for the last three.

I teach grade 7-8 language arts and computer technology at Gruening. I’ve been teaching grades 6-12 for over 15 years. In my role as VPP, I stay actively connected with many AEA committees, serving mostly on the Employee Rights, Political Action, Human and Civil Rights, PD, Bylaws, and Special Education Committees. I am chairperson of the Bylaws Committee as well and coordinate Policy Assembly. I’m a Level 2 Certified Google Educator and generally tech-savvy.

Misty Nelson

Lake Otis Elementary School

As a born and raised Alaskan, I am a proud graduate of the Anchorage School District. I taught in the Gen Ed Elementary classrooms for nine years, and have recently made the change to Librarian. I hold a B.A. in Early Childhood Education, an M.Ed. in Cross Cultural Education, and an M.Ed. in K-12 Reading. Some things I enjoy for self-care—reading, hiking, and traveling to new places. Thanks for your support!
